REMOVAL OF HEAVY METAL ION FROM TIE AND DYE WASTEWATER USING GROUNDNUT SHELL AND TEA BAG AS NATURAL COAGULANTS
Abstract
This project investigates using groundnut shells and tea bags as natural coagulants to remove heavy metal ions from tie and dye wastewater, which poses environmental risks. The materials were ground and mixed in a 70:30 ratio, then added to wastewater at 6g, 12g, and 18g doses. XRF results showed that the mixture contained 50.42% Al₂O₃, SiO₂, and Fe₂O₃. The study found that as the dosage increased, adsorption efficiency decreased. The highest efficiency (14.72%) was achieved with 6g, followed by 12g (8.28%) and 18g (5.66%). Excessive coagulant doses may limit effectiveness due to adsorption saturation and potential release of contaminants.
