Abstract

This study addresses the challenge of optimizing oil recovery in gas field XYZ of the Niger Delta region, particularly focusing on the effectiveness of CO2 injection as an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technique. The aim was to evaluate how CO2 injection impacts hydrocarbon recovery and produced water management compared to conventional production methods. Utilizing Petrel software, a detailed reservoir model was developed, which included various geological features and fluid properties. The results demonstrated that CO2 injection significantly improved cumulative gas production, achieving 6.03E+6 MSCF compared to 4.1991E+6 MSCF in the productiononly case. Additionally, the CO2 injection strategy maintained a stable bottom hole pressure of 1000 psi, while the productiononly case experienced a dramatic drop in production rates, declining to 396.66 MSCF/d before ceasing operations. The findings concluded that CO2 injection not only enhances oil recovery but also improves water management strategies within the reservoir, highlighting its potential as a viable solution for optimizing hydrocarbon extraction.
