Abstract

This study investigates the hydrocarbon potential of the Gubio area in northeastern Nigeria using aeromagnetic data. The aeromagnetic survey is a key geophysical technique employed to map subsurface structures by identifying magnetic anomalies that may suggest the presence of hydrocarbons. The research utilizes total magnetic intensity (TMI) data, upward continuation, and source parameter imaging (SPI) methods to delineate structural features such as faults and sedimentary basins, which are critical for hydrocarbon accumulation. The analysis highlights key subsurface features, including deep fault lines and thick sedimentary sequences, which are conducive to hydrocarbon generation. Spectral depth analysis was used to estimate the depth to magnetic basement, revealing significant sedimentary thickness in the region. These findings suggest that the Gubio area has promising conditions for hydrocarbon maturation and accumulation. The results provide a strong foundation for further exploration efforts, such as seismic surveys, to refine the subsurface structural models and support potential drilling activities.The study emphasizes the effectiveness of aeromagnetic data in hydrocarbon exploration, concluding that the Gubio area holds substantial potential for future hydrocarbon exploration and development.
