A BLEND OF PINEAPPLE CROWN EXTRACT AND RED ONION SKIN EXTRACT AS GREEN CORROSION INHIBITORS IN OFFSHORE FACILITIES AND PIPELINES.

Abstract

The Pineapple crown extract (PCE), Red onion skin extract (ROSE) and the blend (PR) inhibition on mild steel (MS) and carbon steel (CS) were studied in this research. These extracts were locally sourced from the local Choba market. They are waste materials gotten after cutting of pineapple fruits and the onion skin is gotten from peeling onion before use. The metals studied here are prone to corrosion especially in offshore environments, hence why these extracts are tested on them to inhibit this damage. Weight loss method was used and it show that indeed these extracts has the potential to be an industrial inhibitor. The result most especially showed that an increase in the concentration of inhibitor to 9 ml, achieving up to 94.15% in carbon steel. The inhibiting effect could be attributed to the presence of flavonoids and phenolic compounds such as quercentin in the onion peel and phytosterol in pineapple crowns. which are adsorbed on the surface of the metals
