DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF RECHARGEABLE SOLDERING STATION WITH VACCUM BLOWER
Abstract
A soldering iron joins two metal work pieces by means of a third metal (solder) at a relatively low temperature, which is above the melting point of the solder but below the melting point of either of the materials being joined. Soldering iron tips are made of copper core plated with iron. The copper is used for heat transfer and the iron plating is used for durability. Soldering irons are most often used for installation, repairs, and limited production work in electronics assembly. High-volume production lines use other soldering methods. Large irons may be used for soldering joints in sheet metal objects. A soldering station is an assembly of devices that in a composite unit that enhances the process of soldering in electronics. It consists of one or more soldering tools connected to the main unit, which includes the controls (temperature adjustment), means of indication, and may be equipped with an electric transformer. Its importance in electronics cannot be over-emphasized, which motivates the need for a flexible soldering station that can service the technician with or without public utility supply. In this project a rechargeable soldering station had a vacuum blower, and an automatic AC/DC switch was constructed. The device comprised of a battery and battery charger, heating element, and a copper tip and well as a vacuum blower coupled into a composite unit. The main aim of a rechargeable soldering station is to provide an instant backup during power failure or mains outage.
Keywords: Rechargeable Soldering Station, vacuum blower.
