Abstract
ABSTRACT
This research work is entitled “An analysis of the impact of corruption on economic development in Katsina state: A case study of Batagarawa local government.”Corruption remains a significant impediment to economic development, particularly in developing regions such as Katsina State, Nigeria. This study examines the impact of corruption on economic development in Batagarawa Local Government, analyzing its effects on public service delivery, infrastructure development, and investment. Using a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and secondary data analysis, the study identifies how corruption manifests at the local government level and its broader implications for economic growth and poverty alleviation.Findings reveal that corruption in Batagarawa Local Government has led to misallocation of resources, poor infrastructure, and reduced investor confidence, ultimately hindering sustainable development. The study also highlights systemic issues, such as weak governance structures and lack of accountability, which exacerbate the problem. To mitigate these challenges, the research recommends stricter anti-corruption measures, enhanced transparency in public spending, and greater community participation in governance. By addressing corruption, Batagarawa and similar local governments can improve service delivery, attract investment, and foster economic development.
