COMPARATIVE EFFICACY OF PREDNISOLONE AND INFLIXIMAB IN AMELIORATING GUT DYSFUNCTION IN TNBS-INDUCED CROHN’S DISEASE MODEL IN ADULT MALE SPRAGUE DAWLEY RATS.

Abstract

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease characterized by gut dysfunction, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Prednisolone and infliximab are commonly used treatments, but their comparative efficacy in ameliorating gut dysfunction is unclear. This study compare the efficacy of prednisolone and infliximab in ameliorating gut dysfunction. Forty adult male Sprague Dawley rats were induced with Crohn's disease TNBS using TNBS and treated them with prednisolone or infliximab of r a period of 7 weeks. The rats where divided into four groups of eight rats each. Group A (control), Group B (Crohn disease), Group C (treated with Prednisolone), Group D (treated with infliximab). At the end of experiment, the rat were sacrificed and clinical parameters, total acid acidity, mucin content, and pH were measured.Both prednisolone and infliximab significantly reduced degree of ulceration, hypermia, adhesion, megacolon, total acidity, and significantly increased mucin content and pH in the colon and ileum. However, infliximab showed superior efficacy in improving the assessed parameters.This study suggests that infliximab may be a more effective treatment than prednisolone in ameliorating gut dysfunction in Crohn's disease, particularly in improving gut motility and reducing inflammation.
