PLANNING AND DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL AMONG BAKERY BUSINESSES IN KWARA STATE

Abstract

As the economy advances, there is a narrowing of gap between producers and consumers due to the emergence of the advancement in technology and distribution fulfils the critical function of integrating the economy into society to serve human needs. The major reason for business is to sell its products and services, that can satisfy their customers at profit and also to ensure effective operation. The increases in output of goods and services necessitated the development of the channel of distribution. Hence, poor road network adversely affects the effectiveness and efficiency of products distribution in most developing countries. This results in high rate of vehicle breakdown and causes the products to get to the final consumers at the wrong time. The high cost of transportation and delivery also affect the distribution strategy of a firm. However, this study aims at investigating the planning of distribution channel among bakery businesses in Kwara state. The research questions provide answer to how distribution channel can direct channel of distribution among bakery business in Kwara state. This study consists of the summary of data collected from the personal interview with (10) bakeries business center within Ilorin metropolis. The number of interview people where (10). The method of analysis which was use is simple analysis. From the table 4.1.4, this shows the responses from the ten (10) bakeries in Ilorin metropolises on the impact of direct channel of distributions on the market share of the business. Seven (7) bakeries basically agreed that one level of distribution channel has significant impact on the business market share, three (3) bakeries disagree and one (1) undecided bakery on this research question. The research revealed that the independents variables which are direct channel and one level channel are significant with Dependent variables which are effectiveness and market share. Also, the study recommends that bakery business in Kwara state should assist in taking the issue of distribution channels serious as this will lead to an improvement in the effectiveness and market share.
